This is a lovely deciduous tree with fragrant lilac flowers in late spring/summer.
Also known as Monks Pepper, as after flowering a berry appears with four seeds in it, similar to pepper. Monks used to grind the seeds and sprinkle on food to contain their sex drive. Helpful for wives with enthusiastic husbands or vice versa!
