White House Nursery

About Us

HOW WE DO THINGS

Peter Harris and Jesse Exiner run White House Nursery.

We have two nurseries. Some of our plants are grown in a warmer location. We visit our other nursery once a week to pick up plants. If your order arrives the day after we have been to our other nursery and your order requires plants from the other nursery, there will be a delay of a week.

Our turn around from receiving your order to posting it is usually 7 days, depending on the size of the order. 10 days if we are busy. Jesse insists on packing each order individually and because most of our orders are for multiple plants, they take longer to pack. We care greatly about our plants and we have an excellent record for plants arriving in good condition and we intend to maintain that.

You will receive tracking information from Australia Post to your email address and mobile phone number (if supplied) when your parcel is posted. We request that all parcels are signed for as that is the safest way for us to know that the parcel has been delivered. If you don't want to sign for the parcel, please leave us a message in the 'message' area provided. If you have any concerns regarding the delivery of your parcel, please contact Australia Post on 13 11 18.  We can't help you because the parcel is addressed to you. If you want to change the delivery address of your parcel while it is in transit, you can do that on the Australia Post website.

Australia Post works 7 days a week. Even though your local post office is closed, Australia Post isn't. For interstate orders, if you are concerned about your parcel sitting around in closed post offices, don't be. They will be in transit.  In the middle of summer, the plants in our parcels will be fine being in transit for up to 2 weeks. In winter 3 weeks. They go to sleep in the dark and don't wake up until you open the box.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Orders must be paid for before posting. We reserve the right to cut back or make any adjustment to any plant to make it possible for it to be posted safely to the customer. We try to deliver the best possible plant outcomes for our customers. We will never substitute a plant that we don't have in stock without consoltation with our customer first. We refund all payments of out of stock plants to either your PayPal or Credit Card account.

DAMAGED PLANTS

If a plant is damaged in the post, we require contact to be made within 3 working days. A photograph of the damaged plant is required to be sent to us by email or text. In most cases we will replace the plant if we deem the damage too severe for our customers expectations for proper growth.

OUR HISTORY

We are a boutique, rare plant nursery, in Ashbourne, Victoria, 7kms from Woodend, in the Macedon Ranges. We are not open to the public. We sell our plants through our website and by attending plant shows such as; The Mount Macedon Garden Lovers Fair at Bolobek, The Yea Garden Expo in Yea The Garden & Home Expo at Lardner Park, Warragul and The Collectors Plant Fair in NSW at the Hawkesbury Racecourse.

Our nursery is located on our farm, where we have free-range chickens for eggs, a home for our two border collies; Forest and Fanny, three cows; Daisy, Lucky, Feddie, a Moray Eel named Cody, A Macaw named Molly, a Magpie named Harriotto and an a cat named LC. We also have 50,000 bees. No, we haven't named them.....yet!

Peter Harris has been involved in horticulture for over 35 years and has specialised in the growing of rare plants for many of these. He has worked with the Melbourne City Council growing plants for the Fitzroy Gardens, the Chandler Nurseries and in his own tube stock nursery, which became the largest in Victoria. Peter grows the majority of our plants and bulbs and plans our mail order days.

Jesse Exiner has been involved in property and garden restoration, which includes his last project at 'Mawarra', the Edna Walling garden in Sherbrooke, Victoria. This garden was totally restored over five years and the house restored over three years. Jesse sold this property in 2010. Jesse is respondsible for the website, customer liason via email and telephone, and packs all the orders into boxes for mail-order and delivers the orders to the Post Office.

Vicky McCurdy works with us part time, three days a week. As a qualified gardener, she helps Peter with growing and potting plants. She also wraps all the plants for mail-order. Vicky also runs a beautiful B&B in East Trentham by the name of "The Plum Tuckered Inn". For excellent accomodation at a reasonabe price, close to Trentham and it's surrounding areas, this is a wonderful choice for a B&B. Phone Vicky on 0414 308 513. Please only contact Vicky for accomodation needs.

We love our work and are very proud of the quality of plants we are achieving. Please enjoy our mail-order website.
